Whoever is working on the innovation policy for Finland, could learn a lot from the way O'Reilly Media is radaring emerging technology trends and making innovations to happen. Instead of traveling around and making reports on what sort of interesting things are happening elsewhere, they invite 200 interesting people working on web services, data visualization and search, open source programming, computer security, hardware hacking, GPS, alternative energy, and all manner of emerging technologies to share their works-in-progress, show off the latest tech toys and hardware hacks, and tackle challenging problems together.
Started as an occasional party for "friends of O'Reilly", Foo Camp has currently grown into one of the most interesting technology conferences in the Bay area. For O'Reilly Foo Camps are part of the business, but for the bay area this is extremely effective & practical innovation policy. And for anybody who attends, it's certainly lots of fun. Looking forward to being there this weekend!
Sounds interesting. Finland could also learn from the Danish model where universities, companies and MIT Innovation Lab are jointly creating practices on fostering innovation. How cool is that? We can talk forever about information society and creative this and that, but looks like the Danes are actually on their way on achieving something really interesting.
