On Thursday I woke up in the middle of the night crying. There had been a drama on my dream channel that exceeded any movie I’ve seen about the Second World War. The story itself was coherent and I could remember it after I awaked. However, in the very tragic end of the dream there was also this music -an old walz played with piano and strings- that went on in my head. Swinging in the twilight zone I was hoping I could somehow save the melody before I'd forget it. Then it apppeared to me that I could hum it to my phone's recorder.
In the morning I was amused to listen my nightly ‘recordings’. Surprisingly, in my pathetic chirping it was possible to distinguish a melody. When I mentioned about my dream to Jyri this weekend, he suggested I should try GarageBand for reconstructing the music into a real tune. So I did.
Considering that a) I have not used GB before, b) I am a complete amateur as to conducting any musical performance and c) it is in fact pretty difficult to play piano with the power book keyboard, I am extremely happy with the result. In three hours I actually got to compose the music exactly as I heard it in my dream. What a translation process!
Now I wonder whose piece it is. In case somebody recognizes it or wants to improve my crude prototype, I’ll post it here.
AAC version
GarageBand version
If it is an existing tune, I hope I won't end up to jail for breaking a copyright.
